Rating : - Great monitor for photography for the price
I bought the NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi to replace a 21" Dell 2001FP that had failed. I wanted to upgrade to an IPS panel for photography use without spending a fortune. NEC makes monitors for some of the high end photographic displays that are double or triple the price of this monitor. Also, with widescreen format being the vogue, I wanted something with enough height to display as much as my old 21" monitor - hence the 26" size.
I researched many sites about the color gamuts and panel technologies to settle on this display. It is a great value that will get you the entire sRGB color gamut. Before you buy a monitor, research the color gamut debate about how many colors. WIth DVI only supporting 8 bits, you may not want more than that displayable.
This monitor also has an internal LUT if you want to calibrate it with the NEC Spectrview II software. I have not tried this yet as I am getting great results from my old Spyder II Pro even though this only uses the video card ICC profile method.
My own opinion of the display is that it is sharp, has great viewing angle and accurate colors. The colors are mostly accurate even before calibration which is a rarity today. It also has more settings than I can currently understand. Luckily, NEC has several white papers and there are other resources on the web to help get the most from this amazing display. One that I do like is the ability to dim the LED power indicator or even change its color. Another plus is that it only consumes 1W when in standby. My old Dell was more than 5W.
My only complaint is that it is a bit bright. With the brighness turned to 0 it still is too bright at about 140cd/m^2. (the ideal is 120cd/m^2). I will continue to refine the settings to see if I can get less brightness and update this post.
Also note that it only has one DVI input and one analog input so it is limited for attaching multiple computers.
